From stately Georgian homes to log cabin residences in the woods, Baltimore, Maryland offers an array of architectural options when it comes to homes. Since these architectural designs vary, knowing which type of replacement window best matches the style of your home can be difficult.

Stanek Windows has created this short guide for residents of Baltimore that own Georgian, Greek Revival, Italianate Villas and log homes. Of course, more options than the ones listed might work for your specific property; for the most accurate recommendation of replacement windows, contact Stanek Windows and a professional will complete a free, in-home, no obligation consultation.

Georgian Homes

Georgian Home WindowsThese stately homes were prominent from the 18th century through the American Revolution, but most were found in the town of Baltimore and not beyond. Boxy and symmetrical, Georgian homes usually featured rectangular windows near or above the door and double-hung sash windows with multiple panes.

Stanek Windows offers a variety of double-hung windows that fit the Georgian-style home. These windows allow the homeowner to open either sash and allow the sash to tilt in to clean the pane, making them the perfect choice for windows located on the second floor. Our custom-made double-hung windows showcase the timeless beauty of the architectural lines of your home while offering a triple weather seal to keep Baltimore’s cool winter air and hot summer breeze outside rather than inside.

Choose from a variety of colors and custom options to match the style of your home. For some ideas, check out our photo gallery of past projects.

Italianate Villa

Italianate Villa Windows

This style of home, popular as a ‘city’ retreat for the wealthy living outside of Baltimore or as a primary residence for others, had octagonal or square towers attached. Arch-topped or very tall, narrow windows were popular in the Villa as well as grand woodwork in rich mahogany and walnut.

Because our windows are custom made, we can ensure not only a perfect fit for your new windows, but we can match the style of your home. We also offer woodgrain interior options with our double-hung windows. Choose light or medium oak, rich walnut or beautiful cherry to accentuate the wood used in your Italianate Villa. These windows, constructed from uPVC, look exactly like wood but feature easy maintenance and far superior long-term performance.

Greek Revival

Greek Revival WindowsWhen Americans decided they didn’t want to copy Britain’s style of homes any longer, they chose to build in Greek Revival fashion. Majestic and large, these homes feature a lower pitched roof, porches lined with grand columns, and smaller upstairs windows. Because this style was an expensive one to replicate, it was not quite as popular as other alternatives in Baltimore County. Oftentimes the style was used on the façade of the building; for instance, a townhome might have a few narrow attic windows only on the side of the home that faced the street.

Stanek’s awning windows fit well with this type of home. Choose from one-, two- and three-lite awning windows and stacked two-lite awning windows in white if you are trying to match porch columns, or in colors ranging from cocoa to green to match the color of your home.

Log Homes

Log Home WindowsMany log homes offer expansive views of the world outside, making windows an important – and beautiful -- accessory. Our bay and bow windows open the home’s interior to the outside and create a perfect sitting area for enjoying the view. If your current space features side-by-side double-hung windows or a large picture window, we can create a replacement bay or bow window with oak or maple tongue-and-groove seat and heads to match the style of your home

Our line of sliding windows offers another option for wide-open views and fresh air. Available in two- and three-way sliders, these windows create a natural look with maximum ventilation, and the virtually invisible screens allow for an unobstructed view.
